Personal Experience

I have been a huge, huge fan of AFI since about 6-7th grade. I have always dreamed of going to one of their concerts and I finally got to on October 29th this year. They played live with a band called Touche Amore , which is another band I love very much. To read about my experience, click here. To see pictures I got, click here. AFI played most of my favorite songs by them, which made me incredibly happy. I didn't get to be as close as I wanted to be but I was still fairly close and I was just in awe pretty much the whole time (for both bands) because I love them both so so much. AFI has helped me a lot and has always been a band that I don't get tired of. They played a lot of songs, and I sang to every one of them. I am beyond grateful to have been able to seen these guys live. They put on a fantastic show and I would do it again any day. As I mentioned before, I really like this band so I like all of their songs. But I will link you to some of them and show you the lyrics and if you want to further get into their music you can do that. Any of their old punk stuff is fantastic, just so you know.

I got two letters from you
Last words of the runaway
Your love was written so true
and now I can't speak your name
I faced destruction and you just killed me and walked away
I gave my heart to the cruel
Now it will not beat again

I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
Just like I suffered

No one will ever know you
Deny the last one who cares
Intoxicate with the new
Pretend I'm no longer here
I opened my heart to you
You lied just to reach inside

Now with the faith you removed our hope for forgiveness dies

I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
Just like I suffered

I've seen my darkest days
You gave each one to me
I've seen my darkest days
You gave each one to me
You have been lost for days
May find my darkness

I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
Just like I, I fucking suffered

Just like you
You made me suffer
I hope you, I hope you do

My dear there is no danger
Can't you see they turn blind eyes
To we swift and spotlight strangers?
Oh before the rush is over
We will be revered again
While the victims still recover

Oh!
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful Thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects

Ah

Oh,
Are we running toward death?
I have met him times before
He adores us like the rest
Oh even if we're discovered
Just be sure to wear your best
We will surely make the covers

Oh!
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects

Who would run for cover?
Who would run from us?
Who would run for cover?
Who would run from us?

Oh!
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects at all
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?

Whoa-oh-ohh

With just a look they shook
And heavens bowed before him.
Simply a look can break your heart.
The stars that pierce the sky;
He left them all behind.
We’re left to wonder why
He left us all behind.

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh
(ohh)

Dreams of his crash won’t pass
Oh, how they all adored him
Beauty will last when spiraled down.
The stars that mystify
He left them all behind.
And how his children cried
He left us all behind.

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh

What's the hook, the twist
Within this verbose mystery?
I would gladly bet my life upon it.
That the ghost you love, your ray of light
Will fizzle out without hope.
We're the empty set just floating through, wrapped in skin
Ever searching for what we were promised.
Reaching for that golden ring we'd never let go,
but who would ever let us put put our filthy hands upon it?

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh

Girls Not Grey (Sing The Sorrow)
I'll lay me down tonight
Much further down
Swim in the calm tonight
This art does drown

(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light
(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?
(What follows) has led me to this place
where I belong, with all erased
What follows

All insects sing tonight
The coldest sound
I'd send God's grace tonight
Could it be found?

(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light
(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?
(What follows) has led me to this place
where I belong, with all erased

I'll lay me down tonight
Much further down
Watch stars go out tonight
On sinking ground

I'll lay me down, I'll lay me down

(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light
(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?
(What follows) has led me to this place
where I belong, with all erased

What follows will swallow whole
What follows will swallow whole

There are of course many more songs I love, but I will leave you to look them up more if you decide you like what you hear.

Personal Experience

On October 29th, I saw Touche Amore  live in Reno and they opened for another one of my favorite bands, AFI (who I will be blogging about next week.) To read about my concert experience, click here. To see some of the pictures I got from the concert, click here. This band has gotten me through A LOT. Their lyrics, their sound. Everything. I have a lot of favorite songs by them, but I will choose a few. (In no particular order)
  1. I'll Get My Just Deserve
  2. Honest Sleep
  3. Gravity, Metaphorically
  4. Condolences
  5. Anyone/Anything
  6. Amends
  7. Adieux
Lyrics to Honest Sleep :

Sun down Sun up
I speak in sarcasm to relate to all the things I appreciate
I lie in rhythm to open doors I follow suit and just want more
My reputation is the same its been and I don't care what happens
I read the book so I know the end
I've probably said too much
But I've never felt more accomplished
I'm losing sleep
I'm losing friends
I've got a love hate love
With the city I'm in
I'll count the hours
Having just one wish
If I'm doing fine
There's no point to this.

Lyrics to Amends :
What have I seen other than what the bottom looks like?
Stuck somewhere between the gloom and the light
When you're working towards building back those broken boards
You sometimes lose your footing
You often find yourself putting off everyone while finding comfort in other songs
To distract the fact that you're actually disappearing
I have no excuses that I can offer
Just the hope that your forgiveness will hold back the water
For what its worth… I'm sorry
And at the end I swear I'm trying.

"Anyone / Anything"

You want to know what I am doing here?
The same reason it’s been for all these
years. Being made to feel like an outcast in
my own home. You question me on my own
affinity, well I ask of you, “who do you think
you see?” Being made to feel like I’m no
longer wanted in the place I found for that
same problem. I don’t owe anyone, I don’t
owe anything, so stop expecting everything
from me. You don’t owe me a thing, I’m just
trying to be, so just stop answering for me.
I see the contradiction. I see through it’s
ways. I see through everyone living fast in a
passing phase. There’s people that changed
me. There’s songs that saved me from all of
this. There’s days that defined me. There’s
nights that gave me strength from all of
this. So here I am looking past it all reciting.

"Adieux"

12-31: I counted down the days
’til I could wave goodbye to that early grave.

01-01: the weather hasn’t changed, but the story’s over;
it’s time to turn the page.
I was not born with a strong voice;
it’s never been one to boom.
But I’ll be damned to go out quiet,
if it’s the only thing I’ll lose.

(I couldn't find a few songs because safety mode is enabled on the fucking computer I'm using) Everything by them is amazing but those seem to be the songs I listen to the most if I don't just listen to their discography all the way through.

~My Third Concert Experience~

So, on the 29th I saw two bands that are both some of my all time favorites. One band was called Touche Amore, and the other was AFI. I pretty much grew up listening to AFI and I have liked them for a very long time. I got into Touche Amore about a year ago and instantly fell in love. I'll probably write about AFI and Touche Amore the next two weeks when I blog, because this post is going to be all about my experience.

So, the concert was held in Reno, Nevada at The Knitting Factory. This was a bit of a big deal for me, because I live about 2 hours away in Grass Valley, California. And I was also very anxious because the two bands I would see that night are bands that have done so much for me and mean so so so much to me. So I got there around 7, and the opening band (a local band that hailed from Nevada) had finished. I made my way to the front as close as I could get, but people wouldn't let me get closer. So I ended up being on the left side about 4 rows of people away from the front.

I was with my friends Michael and Zach. And we were all freaking out because we all love Touche Amore. And it took like 15 minutes for them to set up because they were having sound problems, which was lame. But they started playing and I was screaming (not like, fangirl screaming. Like actually screaming at the top of my lungs) the lyrics to the first song they played. I forgot what they opened with. And I pretty much screamed (its a hardcore band so those are the kind of vocals they have) all the songs they played except for bits and pieces of the songs I didn't know. And they played a song called "Amends" and towards the end it says "For what it's worth, I'm sorry" and I screamed that and it was just so beautiful. And then their last song in their set they played is one of my favorite songs by them called "Honest Sleep" and I know all the lyrics to that song so I screamed at as loud as I could and it was so great. I have honestly fantasized about doing that for so long. And they played a large amount of songs since they're a small band and kind of don't have a lot. A lot of Touche's other songs are performed with other bands like La Dispute and Make Do and Mend, which I will more than likely end up blogging about at some point.

So, Touche Amore finished and I was so so happy with that. Then, AFI came on and things got a bit crazy. But it was totally worth it. They played almost all of my favorite songs by them, and they played one called "The Leaving Song" and I cried and sang/screamed along. I screamed the lyrics to all the songs they played because I know most of the lyrics to pretty much all of them. And a lot of people were crowd surfing. And Davey (lead singer) kept crowd surfing and it was so rad.

Then at the very end I went to the Touche Amore merch stand and bought a crewneck sweater and a record. And I begged the merch guy to get it signed for me and he did and I literally cried because I love them.

I'll be posting pictures at some point, but I am unable to right now.
I highly recommend at least listening to Touche Amore and AFI, and seeing them in concert.
