So, on the 29th I saw two bands that are both some of my all time favorites. One band was called Touche Amore, and the other was AFI. I pretty much grew up listening to AFI and I have liked them for a very long time. I got into Touche Amore about a year ago and instantly fell in love. I'll probably write about AFI and Touche Amore the next two weeks when I blog, because this post is going to be all about my experience.
So, the concert was held in Reno, Nevada at The Knitting Factory. This was a bit of a big deal for me, because I live about 2 hours away in Grass Valley, California. And I was also very anxious because the two bands I would see that night are bands that have done so much for me and mean so so so much to me. So I got there around 7, and the opening band (a local band that hailed from Nevada) had finished. I made my way to the front as close as I could get, but people wouldn't let me get closer. So I ended up being on the left side about 4 rows of people away from the front.
I was with my friends Michael and Zach. And we were all freaking out because we all love Touche Amore. And it took like 15 minutes for them to set up because they were having sound problems, which was lame. But they started playing and I was screaming (not like, fangirl screaming. Like actually screaming at the top of my lungs) the lyrics to the first song they played. I forgot what they opened with. And I pretty much screamed (its a hardcore band so those are the kind of vocals they have) all the songs they played except for bits and pieces of the songs I didn't know. And they played a song called "Amends" and towards the end it says "For what it's worth, I'm sorry" and I screamed that and it was just so beautiful. And then their last song in their set they played is one of my favorite songs by them called "Honest Sleep" and I know all the lyrics to that song so I screamed at as loud as I could and it was so great. I have honestly fantasized about doing that for so long. And they played a large amount of songs since they're a small band and kind of don't have a lot. A lot of Touche's other songs are performed with other bands like La Dispute and Make Do and Mend, which I will more than likely end up blogging about at some point.
So, Touche Amore finished and I was so so happy with that. Then, AFI came on and things got a bit crazy. But it was totally worth it. They played almost all of my favorite songs by them, and they played one called "The Leaving Song" and I cried and sang/screamed along. I screamed the lyrics to all the songs they played because I know most of the lyrics to pretty much all of them. And a lot of people were crowd surfing. And Davey (lead singer) kept crowd surfing and it was so rad.
Then at the very end I went to the Touche Amore merch stand and bought a crewneck sweater and a record. And I begged the merch guy to get it signed for me and he did and I literally cried because I love them.
I'll be posting pictures at some point, but I am unable to right now.
I highly recommend at least listening to Touche Amore and AFI, and seeing them in concert.
Photos or it didn't happen.
