PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Iwrestledabearonce isn't something I personally listen to when I'm feeling sad, so I can't say that they've 'helped me' through things, but they have been one of my favorite bands for a few years now. I had known about them for a long time but had never listened to them until my boyfriend suggested it (they are also one of his favorite bands). So I decided that I should, and I fell in love instantly. I actually got to see them live at the All Stars Tour in August 2013 with one of my best friends, Candra. While I was in line to get a tee shirt I actually got to meet the new singer/screamer, Courtney LaPlante (she replaced Krysta Cameron because she became pregnant), and I got a signed poster from her. And I actually talk to Mikey Montgomery and Mike Rickshaw Martin sometimes on Facebook, which is amazing and I think it's rad that they talk to their fans.

I have not gotten to see The Used live yet but I might on March 25th and I'm really excited for that. I found out about The Used through my boyfriend Michael roughly around 2 years ago and I fell in love. Their songs can range from upbeat to slow and sad, and I like that they can do that. Bert McCracken's voice is perfect combination of smooth and raspy. I love all of their songs, and I really really hope I get to see them live. Since I can't really choose a "favorite" (It's VERY rare that I can have 'favorite songs') I will just link you to a few random ones.

  1. The Taste of Ink
  2. Empty With You
  3. Together Burning Bright

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I've only known about Man Overboard for about a year (I think) now. I haven't listened to them as much as I'd like to but I have been listening more and more lately and I'm starting to love them. They're more of a band to listen to when you're in a happy (ish) mood, along with most pop punk music. Of course it varies with each listener, so for me it depends on my mood and what I feel like listening to. Lately it's only been when I'm in an (at least) okay mood. I would love to see them in concert some day, though. I've heard they're really good live. Since I'm not too familiar with the songs yet, I'll link you to their released videos.

I will probably be doing my next few posts on those two bands. As far as favorite songs go, I love all of them but I will link you to some random ones.

  • Broken Frames (released June 8, 2010)
  • White Lotus (released August 8, 2011)
  • Masks (released September 17, 2013)

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Eyes Set To Kill used to be one of my favorite bands when I was in 7th and 8th grade (for those who don't know, I am currently a junior). Anyways, I got the opportunity of seeing them live with Rob Zombie when I was in 8th grade, and that was my first concert. I got fairly close to the front, and I screamed a lot. It was really a great show. I was pretty much in awe the whole time (since it was my first concert) and I was just shocked I even got to be there. I have pictures on one of my really old phones but I wouldn't be able to get them on here, so I apologize for that. I also got to meet Cisko (unclean vocals) and I was thrilled about that. I got a shirt and poster signed by Cisko, Anissa and Caleb. As far as my current liking them, I haven't listened to their two newest albums (White Lotus & Masks) but as I type this I am listening to White Lotus and it's pretty good, in my opinion. Same sound and everything. I was sort of scared to listen to their new albums because I felt like they might sell out but I like what I'm hearing so far. Since I only know their older songs, I will link you to those along with lyrics. I'll probably give an update on the album on next weeks blog. Anyways, I'm going to list the songs below.
Lyrics:
Darling
Darling, don't lie to me now.
Now I'm erasing you,
Throwing those memories out.
Out to start something new,
I'm throwing those memories.

Darling,
Don't lie to me.
Darling,
Don't lie to me.
Darling,
Don't lie to me.

Darling, don't...

Breathe in slowly now;
Darling don't lie to me.
Breathe in slowly now;
Darling don't lie to me.
Inhale truth I plead,
For your my only hope;
Don't lie; don't leave

Mindset on failure,
The road you chose
Told me you loved me.
Told me you...

Take your time; I'm only dying.
Patiently, I kneel here dying.
Can't stop lying,
You can't stop lying;
Deep inside is where it lies.

Don't mind me; I'm only dying.
Don't mind me; I'm only dying.
Don't mind me; I'm only dying. (What got me into this mess that devoured me?)
Don't mind me; I'm only dying. (Lies and deceitful actions keep promising)
What got me into this mess that devoured me?
(Darling! Don't lie! )
Lies and deceitful actions keep promising.
(Darling! Don't lie! )
What got me into this mess that devoured me
(Darling! Don't lie! )
Lies and deceitful actions keep promising.
(Darling! Don't! lie! )

Reach
Hush don't speak a word about the dreams that I live for
It hurts to reach you when I'm down
Don't speak again, I'm still waiting for my turn
It hurts to reach you when I'm down

My dreams are growing into
Frustrations when I hear your voice
(feeding me till I'm choking)
My ears are ringing louder
Repeating words that bring me down
(ringing, my ears are bleeding)

So hold your breath and spare me
The pointless conversation, I'm running out of patience
Don't blame me for trying to reach

Hush don't speak a word about the dreams that I live for
It hurts to reach you when I'm down
Don't speak again, I'm still waiting for my turn
It hurts to reach you when I'm down

As you are moving forward
I feel as if I can't catch up
(trying so hard to reach you)
I'm stuck here at the bottom
You're too high up to come back down
(trying so hard to reach you)

So hold your breath and spare me
The pointless conversation, I'm running out of patience
Don't blame me for trying to reach

Hush don't speak a word about the dreams that I live for
It hurts to reach you when I'm down
Don't speak again, I'm still waiting for my turn
It hurts to reach you when I'm down

Silence your harsh words my dear
My ears are ringing of this
I can't stop thinking of it
(I try to reach you but I fall)

Hush don't speak a word about the dreams that I live for
It hurts to reach you when I'm down
Don't speak again, I'm still waiting for my turn
It hurts to reach you when I'm down

Deadly Weapons
I have to get away
Out of this place, where I became the type who sits and laugh's at everyone who judges me
It's so damn dark in here
I can't see in front of me
My flames have all burnt out, my hopes no part of my reality
There's no escaping fear.I can't breathe, I'm struggling
My flames have all burnt out, my hopes no part of my reality
There's something pulling me in the wrong direction

My confessions aren't at rest they can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons, deadly weapons
Why must this perception take my breath?
I can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons
Deadly weapons

With no direction to go, will my feet carry me?
To where I need to go to find myself the perfect remedy
Can I bare all of the weight of my mistakes?
Give me strength
Where ever will I go to find myself the perfect remedy
There's someting pulling me in the wrong direction

My confessions aren't at rest they can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons, deadly weapons
Why must this perception take my breath?
I can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons
I can't get by
Now I could never take it back
Now I could never take it back

The truth might take us down, lose ourselves in the sound
I won't want to hear your name
I won't want to see you face again
Words crumble to the ground, you'll blow the candles out
I won't want to hear your name
I won't bear to see you face again
There's something telling me I better take my chances

My confessions aren't at rest they can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons, deadly weapons
Why must this perception take my breath?
I can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons

My confessions aren't at rest they can't get by
Oh no, cause these are deadly weapons
I can't get by

(I know there's something more)x4
Now I could never take it back x2

  • Crash Love (released in 2009)
  • Burials (released in 2013)

Personal Experience

I have been a huge, huge fan of AFI since about 6-7th grade. I have always dreamed of going to one of their concerts and I finally got to on October 29th this year. They played live with a band called Touche Amore , which is another band I love very much. To read about my experience, click here. To see pictures I got, click here. AFI played most of my favorite songs by them, which made me incredibly happy. I didn't get to be as close as I wanted to be but I was still fairly close and I was just in awe pretty much the whole time (for both bands) because I love them both so so much. AFI has helped me a lot and has always been a band that I don't get tired of. They played a lot of songs, and I sang to every one of them. I am beyond grateful to have been able to seen these guys live. They put on a fantastic show and I would do it again any day. As I mentioned before, I really like this band so I like all of their songs. But I will link you to some of them and show you the lyrics and if you want to further get into their music you can do that. Any of their old punk stuff is fantastic, just so you know.

I got two letters from you
Last words of the runaway
Your love was written so true
and now I can't speak your name
I faced destruction and you just killed me and walked away
I gave my heart to the cruel
Now it will not beat again

I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
Just like I suffered

No one will ever know you
Deny the last one who cares
Intoxicate with the new
Pretend I'm no longer here
I opened my heart to you
You lied just to reach inside

Now with the faith you removed our hope for forgiveness dies

I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
Just like I suffered

I've seen my darkest days
You gave each one to me
I've seen my darkest days
You gave each one to me
You have been lost for days
May find my darkness

I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
I hope you suffer
I hope you do
Just like I, I fucking suffered

Just like you
You made me suffer
I hope you, I hope you do

My dear there is no danger
Can't you see they turn blind eyes
To we swift and spotlight strangers?
Oh before the rush is over
We will be revered again
While the victims still recover

Oh!
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful Thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects

Ah

Oh,
Are we running toward death?
I have met him times before
He adores us like the rest
Oh even if we're discovered
Just be sure to wear your best
We will surely make the covers

Oh!
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects

Who would run for cover?
Who would run from us?
Who would run for cover?
Who would run from us?

Oh!
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects at all
If we run this light
Take a little life
No one will care at all
Oh!
We can burn it and leave
For we are the beautiful thieves
No one suspects at all
No one suspects

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?

Whoa-oh-ohh

With just a look they shook
And heavens bowed before him.
Simply a look can break your heart.
The stars that pierce the sky;
He left them all behind.
We’re left to wonder why
He left us all behind.

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh
(ohh)

Dreams of his crash won’t pass
Oh, how they all adored him
Beauty will last when spiraled down.
The stars that mystify
He left them all behind.
And how his children cried
He left us all behind.

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh

What's the hook, the twist
Within this verbose mystery?
I would gladly bet my life upon it.
That the ghost you love, your ray of light
Will fizzle out without hope.
We're the empty set just floating through, wrapped in skin
Ever searching for what we were promised.
Reaching for that golden ring we'd never let go,
but who would ever let us put put our filthy hands upon it?

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh

Hey Miss Murder can I?
Hey Miss Murder can I?
Make beauty stay if I,
Take my life?
Whoa-oh-ohh

Girls Not Grey (Sing The Sorrow)
I'll lay me down tonight
Much further down
Swim in the calm tonight
This art does drown

(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light
(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?
(What follows) has led me to this place
where I belong, with all erased
What follows

All insects sing tonight
The coldest sound
I'd send God's grace tonight
Could it be found?

(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light
(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?
(What follows) has led me to this place
where I belong, with all erased

I'll lay me down tonight
Much further down
Watch stars go out tonight
On sinking ground

I'll lay me down, I'll lay me down

(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light
(Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?
(What follows) has led me to this place
where I belong, with all erased

What follows will swallow whole
What follows will swallow whole

There are of course many more songs I love, but I will leave you to look them up more if you decide you like what you hear.
